William Horobin was born in 1749 at Sheen in Staffordshire, the son of William Horobin 1724-1794 and his wife née Elizabeth Derbyshire 1723-1807.
He owned property including an estate at the back of Sheen Hill, seven other acres at Sheen Hill, enclosed land at Hurdlow in Hartington parish, an estate at Sheen Moor Top, the tithe of Whittle Farm in Sheen, and land on Sheen Moor called Smithy Closes and Heaths, all in addition to his farm at Crowdecote in Derbyshire.
He married Ann Mellor.
They had the following children:
William Horobin. He was born on 19 October 1771, and was baptised on 17 November 1771 at Sheen (1). He married Hannah Barker on 16 October 1791 in Manchester Collegiate Church (2). He died on 25 December 1844 at Sheen Moor Race, and was buried on 30 December 1844 at Sheen.
Benjamin Horobin. He was born on 8 December 1773, and was baptised on 2 January 1774 at Sheen. On 7 October 1799 he married Hannah Doughty 1773-1821 at Earl Sterndale (3). He died on 6 April 1849 at Ferny Knowl in Sheen, and was buried on 9 April 1849 at Sheen.
Thomas Horobin. He was born on 5 April 1777. He married Ellen Mellor on 1 December 1806 at Earl Sterndale (4). He died on 11 May 1858 at Crowdecote, and was buried on 15 May 1858 at Earl Sterndale.
John Horobin. He was born on 23 April 1779 at Sheen, and baptised there on 9 May 1779. He married Elizabeth Wilkinson of Hartington in 1805 (5). He died on 18 October 1845 aged 66 years at Sparklow in Derbyshire, and was buried on 22 October 1845 at Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire.
Ann Horobin. She was born on 12 December 1780, and was baptised on 21 January 1781 at Sheen. She was married to Joseph Doughty on 6 February 1800 at Earl Sterndale (6). They lived at Longnor Edge (7) and had a daughter Elizabeth Doughty (born 1805) who was married to Matthew Mellor 1804-1861. Ann Doughty née Horobin died in 1850.
Daniel Horobin. He was born on 13 December 1783, and was baptised on 25 January 1784 at Sheen. He married Mary Naden of Hartington by licence on 16 October 1809 at Hartington in Derbyshire (8).
Elizabeth Horobin. She was born on 29 October 1785, and was baptised on 27 November 1785 at Sheen. She was married to Joseph Goodwin (9).
Hannah Horobin. She was born on 28 March 1787, and was baptised on 22 April 1787 at Sheen. She was married to Joseph Needham on 10 October 1811 at Hartington (10).
Ellen Horobin. She was probably born on 26 March 1788 (11).
Their father William Horobin died on 26 May 1825 at Broad Meadow in Sheen parish. His Will was dated 15 March 1823, and proved on 18 June 1825.
His wife Ann Horobin died on 17 November 1820 at Crowdecote.
(1) In his father's Will he was bequeathed five shillings. Presumably as the eldest son William Horobin 1771-1844 inherited his father's extensive holdings at Crowdecote and elsewhere not otherwise bequeathed.
(2) Now Manchester Cathedral.
(3) In his father's Will he was bequeathed "the Estate at the back of Sheen Hill" but he was to pay out of that estate £6 per annum to his sister Elizabeth Goodwin for life and £100 to his brother John Horobin. He was also to share with his brothers Thomas Horobin, John Horobin and Daniel Horobin the residue of their father's cash, bills and book debts and the residue of his farming stock, implements of husbandry, and household furniture, all to be equally divided between them. He also bequeathed to Benjamin Horobin seven acres at Sheen Hill.
(4) In his father's Will he was bequeathed six of his best milk cows, a horse and cart and gearing, and a plough and harrow. He was also to share with his brothers Benjamin Horobin, John Horobin and Daniel Horobin the residue of their father's cash, bills and book debts and the residue of his farming stock, implements of husbandry, and household furniture, all to be equally divided between them.
(5) In his father's Will he was bequeathed "all that Parcel of Land at Hurdlow both the old and new inclosures in the Parish of Hartington". He was also to share with his brothers Benjamin Horobin, Thomas Horobin and Daniel Horobin the residue of their father's cash, bills and book debts and the residue of his farming stock, implements of husbandry, and household furniture, all to be equally divided between them.
(6) In her father's Will she was bequeathed £300.

(8) In his father's Will he was bequeathed "the Estate at Sheen Moor Top", the whole tithe of Whittle Farm in Sheen parish, and land on Sheen Moor called Smithy Closes and Heaths. He was also to share with his brothers Benjamin Horobin, Thomas Horobin and John Horobin the residue of their father's cash, bills and book debts and the residue of his farming stock, implements of husbandry, and household furniture, all to be equally divided between them.
(9) In her father's Will she was bequeathed land on Sheen Moor Race called the New Piece or Middle Piece. Her daughter Susannah Goodwin was also mentioned in the Will.
(10) In her father's Will she was bequeathed the income from £240 paid half yearly for life, and then £240 was to go to her surviving children in equal shares.
(11) She may have been married to a husband surnamed Clowes, as a granddaughter named Ann Clowes is mentioned in the Will.
