Thomas Horobin was born on 5 April 1777 at Sheen in Staffordshire, the son of William Horobin 1749-1825 and his wife née Ann Mellor.

He was baptised on 10 February 1778 at Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire. He farmed at nearby Crowdecote in Derbyshire (1).

On 1 December 1806 he married Ellen Mellor at Earl Sterndale. She was born in 1786, the daughter of William Mellor and his wife née Elizabeth Clowe. They lived at Meadow Farm in Crowdecote.

They had the following children:

William Horobin. He was born on 30 January 1804 at Longnor, and died on 17 March 1886. He married Mary Edge, who was born in 1825 and died in 1913. They lived in Crowdecote, taking over Meadow Farm when his father died in 1858.

Ann Horobin 1808-1897. She was born in 1808 at Longnor in Staffordshire and baptised there on 2 October 1808. She was married on 3 February 1831 to George Smith 1805-1891.

Rachel Horobin. She was born on 5 December 1810, and died on 18 July 1827 aged 16 years.

Harriett Horobin. She was born on 16 March 1813 at Crowdecote, and baptised on 27 April 1813 at Earl Sterndale. She was married by licence to Thomas Gilman on 17 August 1835 at Hartington in Derbyshire. She died in 1892 aged 79 years.

Jethro Horobin. He was born on 23 August 1815. He died on 25 February 1850 aged 34 years, and was buried in the family tomb at Earl Sterndale.

Agnes Horobin. She was born on 21 January 1817 at Crowdecote.

Thomas Horobin. He was born on 7 September 1819 at Crowdecote. He married Hannah Wood on 29 July 1840 at Sheen in Staffordshire, and secondly Martha Skidmore 1831-1872 on 25 December 1850 after banns at Hartington. He died in 1905 aged 85 years, and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 24 April 1905.

Edmund Horobin. He was born on 8 March 1823 at Crowdecote. He died on 1 July 1843 aged 20 years, and was buried on 5 July 1843 in the family tomb at Earl Sterndale.

Benjamin Horobin. He was born on 3 October 1825 at Crowdecote, and married Alice Hodgkinson 1815-1900 on 2 June 1851 after banns at Hartington. They farmed at Stiff Close in Longnor, and had the following children both born in Hartington parish: Jane Horobin 1852-1878 and Thomas born in 1857. Benjamin Horobin died in 1899 aged 74 years, and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 25 December 1899. His wife Alice Horobin died in 1900 aged 85 years, and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 30 November 1900. Their daughter Jane Horobin had died aged 26 years in 1878, and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 23 May 1878.

George Horobin. He was born on 20 August 1829 at Crowdecote, and was living at home unmarried when the Census was taken in 1851. He married Ann (maiden surname unknown).

Their father Thomas Horobin died at Crowdecote on 11 May 1858 aged 81 years. He was buried in the family table tomb in Earl Sterndale churchyard on 15 May 1858. His Will, dated 29 October 1852, was proved on 4 June 1858 (2).

As a widow in 1861 his wife Ellen Horobin was living with her son William at Crowdecote, working as a seamstress.
She died on 17 January 1868 aged 84 years and was buried with her husband at Earl Sterndale.
