Will of Thomas Horobin 1777-1858

This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Horobin of Crowdycote in the Parish of Hartington in the County of Derby yeoman. I bequeath to my dear wife three hundred pounds. Also one pair of Bed Stocks with Bedding and Hangings and such of my Household Goods and Furniture as my said wife may think proper to select for her own use.

I give to my daughter Ann the wife of George Smith one pound and to my daughter Harriett the wife of Thomas Gilman the sum of one pound, I having fully advanced them in my life time.

I bequeath to my son William Horobin All my live and dead Farming Stock with such of the Household goods and Furniture as my said Wife does not select for herself together with the Tenant right of the Farm which I now hold under his Grace the Duke of Devonshire.

I devise to my said Wife the Messuage or Tenement, Buildings, Land, and premises situate in Crowdycote aforesaid late the property of Mr John Yates, during so much of her natural life as she may think proper to reside therein. And from and after her decease or quitting possession I devise the same to my said son William Horobin his heirs and assigns for ever.

And I devise all that Land and buildings called Mason’s Land situate at Crowdycote aforesaid unto my son Thomas Horobin and his assigns for his life. And after his decease I devise the same unto and equally amongst all his children equally their and his heirs and assigns as Tenants in Common.

All the rest of my real and personal estate I devise and bequeath unto my dear Wife her heirs executors administrators and assigns.

And I appoint my friend Mr Robert Newton Oliver and my son George Horobin Executors of this my Will. And I declare that my Executors shall not be answerable for each other or for any involuntary loss. And I authorize them to retain and allow to each other all expenses incidental to the execution of this my Will.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said Thomas Horobin the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses.
