Benjamin Horobin was born on 3 October 1825 at Crowdecote in Hartington parish in Derbyshire, the son of Thomas Horobin 1777-1858 of Longnor and his wife née Ellen Mellor 1786-1868.
He married Alice Hodgkinson on 2 June 1851 at Hartington church. She was born in 1815 in Hartington.
When the Census was taken in 1861 they were living at Great Lane in Hartington, but by 1881 were farming 47 acres across the river Dove at Stiff Close in Longnor, Staffordshire.
They had the following children, both born in Hartington parish presumably at Crowdecote:
Jane Horobin. She was born in 1852. She died at Stiff Close in Longnor in 1878 aged 26 years, and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 23 May 1878.
Thomas Horobin. He was born in 1857.
Their father Benjamin Horobin died in 1899 aged 74 years, and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 25 December 1899.
His wife Alice Horobin died in 1900 aged 85 years, and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 30 November 1900.
