John Horobin was born on 27 November 1764 at Sheen in Staffordshire, the son of William Horobin 1724-1794 and his wife née Elizabeth Derbyshire 1723-1807.

In 1794 he inherited the family farm at Whittle (also known as Under Whittle) in Sheen parish from his father.

He had married Mary Wheeldon on 25 July 1793. She was born on 2 May 1773 at Longnor. They lived at Under Whittle in Sheen parish.

They had the following children, all born in Sheen:

William Horobin. He was born on 8 January 1794 (1). He married Ann Mellor on 26 December 1822, and died on 26 January 1825 aged only 31 years at Broad Meadow in Sheen parish.

John Horobin. He was born on 28 October 1795. He married Mary Beresford and they had three children: Samuel Horobin (born in 1830), Mary Ellen Horobin (born in 1831) and Henry Horobin (born in 1833). He died in 1849 aged 53 years.

Elizabeth Horobin. She was born on 28 April 1797, and had a son Robert Horobin born on 2 February 1823 (1).

Charles Horobin. He was born on 23 May 1798. He married Mary Britland on 27 November 1837, the daughter of Jesse and Mary Britland of Cromford in Derbyshire. He died on 26 January 1842 at Cromford.

Moses Horobin. He was born on 25 May 1800. He married Mary Belfield 1802-1885 (born at Fawfieldhead in Staffordshire) on 15 May 1832 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire. He died in 1870.

Mary Horobin. She was born on 25 May 1800 and died in 1841.

Hannah Horobin. She was born on 20 July 1802.

James Horobin. He was born on 30 January 1804. He married Ann Carson 1812-1874 of Youlgreave in Derbyshire, and they had four children. He died in 1866

Sarah Horobin. She was born in 1805 and died in 1807.

Henry Horobin. He was born on 4 July 1806. He married Elizabeth Johnson 1809-1873 of Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, and they had three children. He died on 28 April 1872 at Monks Coppenhall in Cheshire.

Samuel Horobin. He was born on 31 March 1808. He married Hannah Miller 1817-1895, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Miller, and they had seven children. Their father Samuel Horobin died on 3 January 1874 in Combridge near Rocester in Staffordshire.

Sarah Ann Horobin. She was born on 17 December 1809. She was unmarried and died in 1881 aged 71 years.

Richard Horobin. He was born on 3 January 1812, and died on 4 March 1831 at Longnor in Staffordshire.

Margaret Horobin. Also known as Peggy, she was born on 22 January 1814. She was married to Mark Conroy 1817-1867 on 17 May 1838 in Manchester. He was born in Dublin, Ireland. They had the following children, all born in Manchester: Mary Ellen Conroy (born in 1839),Hannah Conroy 1841 – 1900, Luke Conroy (born in 1846), John Conroy 1848 – 1926, Susannah Conroy (born in 1850) and Sarah Ann Conroy (born in 1851). They kept the Wellington Inn 220 Waterloo Road, Cheetham in Manchester. Margaret Conroy née Horobin died in 1867 in Manchester.

Martha Horobin. She was born on 24 October 1818. She was married to Joseph Plant 1817-1842 of Longnor, and they had a son Joseph Richard Horobin Plant born in Manchester on 28 September 1841.

Their father John Horobin died in 1824.

His widow Mary Horobin née Wheeldon 12 September 1835 at Longnor.
