Ralph Wooddisse was born in 1841 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of Ralph Wooddisse 1807-1850 and his wife née Elizabeth Beardmore 1811-1890, and was baptised there on 20 June 1841.
When the Census was taken in 1871 he was unmarried and farming 111 acres at Clap Gate farm, Bradbourne in Derbyshire. With him was his sister Hannah Wooddisse.
In 1874 he married Lydia Buxton. She was born in 1847 at Fenny Bentley in Derbyshire, the daughter of William and Hannah Buxton.
When the Census was taken in 1881 he was farming 241 1/4 acres at Bald Field Farm, Ash in Etwall parish, Derbyshire, and employing three men and two boys on the farm. He was there for the rest of his life. By 1891 his widowed mother-in-law Hannah Buxton was living with his family .
Ralph Wooddisse and his wife Lydia nee Buxton had the following children:
Ralph Wooddisse. He was born in 1874 and died in 1944.
William Buxton Wooddisse. He was born in 1878. On 20 October 1907 he married Constance Mabel Hawksworth at Sutton-on-the-Hill in Derbyshire. He died in 1940.
Frank Bagshaw Wooddisse. He was born in 1886 and died in the following year.
Elizabeth Elliott Wooddisse. She was born in 1889 and died in 1976.

Their father Ralph Wooddisse died on 2 October 1925 at Ash, Etwall in Derbyshire.
His Will was proved on 8 December 1925 (1).
His wife Lydia Wooddisse nee Buxton predeceased him in 1912.
