George Wooddisse was born on 23 April 1843 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of Ralph Wooddisse 1807-1850 and his wife née Elizabeth Beardmore 1811-1890. He became a stone mason.
On 29 December 1866 he married Jane Finney at St John the Baptist church, Toxteth Park in Liverpool.
She was born in 1850 at Fawfieldhead near Longnor in Alstonefield parish, the daughter of farmer William Finney. At the time of the wedding the bridegroom was living at 40 Wilton Street in Liverpool and his bride at 193 Park Road, Toxteth Park.
They had the following children:
Elizabeth Wooddisse. She was born in 1867 at Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire, and baptised there on 30 May 1867. She was known in the family as Betty.
George Finney Wooddisse. He was born in 1868 at Earl Sterndale, and baptised at Alstonefield on 24 January 1869. He died in 1907.
Ellen Wooddisse. She was born in 1870 at Alstonefield, and baptised there on 13 March 1870. She died on 4 December 1955 aged 85 years, and was buried at Alstonefield, where there is a monumental inscription to her memory. She was unmarried.
William Edward Wooddisse. He was born in 1872 at Alstonefield, and baptised there on 30 June 1872. He died in 1957.
Ralph Wooddisse. He was born in 1874 at Alstonefield, and baptised there on 14 June 1874.
Jane Wooddisse. She was born in 1876 at Alstonefield, and baptised there on 26 March 1876. She died in 1962.
Thomas Arthur Wooddisse. He was born in 1878 at Green Sides in Earl Sterndale, Derbyshire. He was baptised on 10 January 1879 at Earl Sterndale.
Hannah Wooddisse. She was born in 1881 at Alstonefield, and baptised there on 14 March 1881. She died on 5 May 1955 aged 73 years, and was buried at Alstonefield, where there is a monumental inscription to her memory. She was unmarried.
Frank Elliot Wooddisse. He was born in 1884 at Leigh near Uttoxeter in Staffordshire. He died on 9 August 1960 aged 76 years, and was buried at Alstonefield, where there is a monumental inscription to his memory.
Ada Wooddisse. She was born in 1886, and was baptised at Leigh on 3 June 1886. She died in 1887 aged one year.
When the Census was taken in 1871 the family were living at Load Lane in Alstonefield, where George Wooddisse was farming twenty acres as well as working as a stone mason. By 1881 he was farming 200 acres, employing a man and two boys.

By 1891 they had moved to Church Farm at Leigh near Uttoxeter. Staying with them was nephew Harold Stubbs, born in 1885 at Blackpool in Lancashire. By 1901 widowed George Wooddisse had moved with his unmarried children Ellen Wooddisse, Hannah Wooddisse and Frank Elliot Wooddisse to Dowall Hall Farm at Earl Sterndale. In 1911 they were farming at Lower Barn, Maudsley near Ormskirk in Lancashire.
Their father George Wooddisse died in 1922, and was buried at Alstonefield, where there is a monumental inscription to his memory.
His wife Jane Wooddisse née Finney died in 1891.
