John Wooddisse 1845-1911

John Wooddisse was born in 1845 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of Ralph Wooddisse 1807-1850 and his wife née Elizabeth Beardmore 1811-1890, and was baptised there on 21 December 1845.

When the Census was taken in 1871 he was unmarried and living with his widowed mother, and was employed as a druggist.

In 1876 he married Ann Sheppy 1847-1877 in Somerset. She was born at Congresbury in Somerset, the daughter of John Sheppy 1816-1879 and his wife nee Martha Young 1820-1887. They had a son John Sheppy Wooddisse born in Alstonefield parish in 1877. He married Dora Ethel Needham 1882-1958, and died on 23 December 1934.

Ann Wooddisse née Sheppy died in 1877.

When the Census was taken in 1881, 1891 and 1901 John Wooddisse was farming at Foeside, Longnor in Alstonefield parish. In 1881 the acreage was recorded as 207 acres, and he was employing one labourer and a boy.

In 1910 John Wooddisse married Annie Jones. She was born in 1862 at Bradley in Staffordshire. By 1911 he had moved to Buxton in Derbyshire, where he had become an auctioneer and valuer.

John Wooddisse died on 25 October 1911 at Buxton.

His Will was proved on 19 December 1911 (1).
