James Askey was born in 1699 at Ashover in Derbyshire, the son of James Askey and his wife Elizabeth (maiden surname unknown).
He married Anne (maiden surname unknown). They lived in Ashover, and had had the following children, all baptised at Ashover:
Mary Askey. She was baptised on 26 July 1720. She was married on 31 July 1762 at Ashover to Samuel Allen of Ashover. They had a daughter Betty Allen, baptised at Ashover on 26 May 1765.
Elizabeth Askey. She was baptised on 24 September 1722. She was married on 19 June 1755 at North Wingfield in Derbyshire to Thomas Rooth of North Wingfield. They had two sons.
James Askey. He was baptised on 24 May 1725 at Ashover. On 7 May 1750 he married Mary Hole at Alfreton in Derbyshire (1). They had two sons and two dughters.
Anne Askey. She was baptised on 23 June 1728, and was married at Ashover on 7 February 1751 to John Sneath. She died in 1758 and was buried at Ashover on 4 August 1758.
Dorothy Askey. She was baptised on 3 March 1731. She was married at Ashover on 13 November 1753 to William Watkinson of North Wingfield.
Richard Askey 1734-1805. He was baptised on 30 November 1734. On 1 December 1755 at Mapleton in Derbyshire he married Sarah Maddock of Mapleton. They had a son Richard Askey 1758-1820 and a daughter.
James Askey died in 1748, and was buried at Ashover on 1 December 1748.
(1) This James Askey was probably the progenitor of the generations of Askey families to be found later in and around Chesterfield in Derbyshire. The surname is sometimes incorrectly spelt Haskey or Haskew in parish regisers and other records..
