Elizabeth Askey 1701-1775

Elizabeth Askey was born in 1701 at Ashover in Derbyshire, the daughter of James Askey and his wife Elizabeth (maiden surname unknown). She was baptised on 10 February 1701.

On 10 December 1724 she was married to Isaac North at South Wingfield in Derbyshire.

North Wingfield Church

They lived at Danesmoor in North Wingfield parish, and had had the following children, all baptised at North Wingfield:

James North. He was born in 1725, and was baptised on 28 December 1725. He died on 30 June 1737 aged 12 years, and was buried at North Wingfield on 3 July 1737.

Elizabeth North. She was born in 1728, and was baptised on 24 January 1728.

Isaac North. He was born in 1732, and was baptised on 17 October 1732. He died in 1737, and was buried at North Wingfield on 28 January 1737.

Richard North. He was born in 1735, and was baptised on 18 April 1735.

Mary North. She was born in 1737, and was baptised on 3 July 1737.

Isaac North. He was born in 1739, and was baptised on 7 November 1739.

Ann North. She was born in 1742, and was baptised on 5 May 1742. She married Mr. Cocker. She died on 4 April 1825 aged 83 years, and was buried on 6 April 1825 at North Wingfield.

John North. He was born in 1745, and was baptised on 3 February 1745. On 30 December 1779 he married Mary Brunt 1757-1834 at North Wingfield church. He died on 14 March 1825 aged 80 years, and was buried at North Wingfield on 17 March 1825. His wife Mary North died on 25 June 1834.

Their mother Elizabeth North died in 1775 aged 72 years. She was buried at North Wingfield on 15 May 1775, where there is a monumental inscription to her memory and that of her husband and children (1).

Her husband Isaac North predeceased her in 1756 aged 60 years. He was buried At North Wingfield on 31 January 1756.

(1) The inscription is on the north side of a table tomb in the churchyard in poor condition, reading as follows:
"Sacred to the memory of James North/Who died 30th June 1737 aged 12 years./Also Isaac North/Father of the above Namd James North/Who died 31st JAN 1756 aged 60 years./Also Elizabt. wife of the said Isaac North,/who died 15th May 1775 aged 72 years./Also Ann COCKER daughter of the above/Isaac and Elizabeth North/who died 4th April 1825 aged 83 years."

On the south side, in better condition, is the following inscription:
"Sacred to the memory of John North/Son of Isaac and Elizabeth North/of Danesmoor/who died 14th March 1825 Aged 80 years/Also to the memory of Mary North,/widow of the above, who died 25th June 1834/in the 78th year of her age/Also Sarah, Third daughter of the above John/and Mary North,/who died September 12th/1839, aged 51 Years."
