Elizabeth Askey 1722-

Elizabeth Askey was born in 1722 at Ashover in Derbyshire, the daughter of James Askey and his wife Anne (maiden surname unknown). She was baptised at Ashover on 24 September 1722.

On 19 June 1755 she was married at North Wingfield in Derbyshire to Thomas Rooth (1). He was baptised at North Wingfield on 11 January 1733, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Rooth of North Wingfield.

They lived in North Wingfield, and had the following children, both baptised there:

Thomas Rooth. He was baptised on 26 October 1755.

John Rooth. He was baptised on 17 July 1757 (2).

(1) The North Wingfield registers of this period consistently and incorrectly record the surname Askey as Askew.
(2) The family seems to have moved away from North Wingfield thereafter, as no further reference to them occurs in the parish registers there.
