Robert Horobin was born in 1813 at Sheen in Staffordshire, the son of John Horobin 1779-1845 and his wife née Elizabeth Wilkinson 1785-1865.
On 13 May 1846 he married Susanna Needham at Hartington after banns. She was born in 1826 at Hartington, the daughter of Joseph Needham 1766-1811 of High Needham and his wife nee Martha Brunt 1766-1811. They farmed at High Needham near Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire.
They had the following children, all baptised at Earl Sterndale :
Elizabeth Horobin. She was born in 1847, and baptised on 6 June 1847. She was married to Thomas Edge on 15 April 1877 at Hartington, and was his second wife. He had married Charlotte Birch in 1868 and they had three children. She died in 1874 aged only 27 years. By his marriage to Elizabeth Horobin, Thomas Edge had a son James Edge (born 1878). Elizabeth Edge née Horobin died in 1900 aged 54 years and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 3 October 1900.
Mary Horobin. She was born in 1848, and baptised on 9 July 1848. When the Census was taken in 1871 she was aged 22 and unmarried working for William Wallwin farming 271 acres at Bakewell Moor, Bakewell in Derbyshire as a general servant.
Charles Horobin. He was born in 1850, and baptised on 24 November 1850. When the Census was taken in 1861 he was living aged ten with his unmarried aunt Sarah Needham at Cut House in Earl Sterndale, together with his sister Elizabeth Horobin then aged thirteen. He married Sarah (surname unknown), and farmed at Crowdecote in Derbyshire. They had a son Robert Horobin born in 1880 and died on 25 November 1881 aged one year and a son Alfred born in 1883. Charles Horobin died on 28 September 1920 aged 70 years. His wife Sarah Horobin had predeceased him on 10 March 1892 aged 43 years. They were buried at Earl Sterndale, where their is a gravestone inscribed to their memory.
Their father Robert Horobin died on 3 November 1851 aged 37 years at High Needham, and was buried on 6 November 1851 at Earl Sterndale, where there is a gravestone inscribed to his memory.
His widow Susanna Horobin née Needham died at Hanley in Staffordshire in 1857 aged 31 years, and was buried at Earl Sterndale on 31 December 1857.
