Charles Horobin was born in 1850 at High Needham in Derbyshire, the son of Robert Horobin 1813-1851 and his wife née Susanna Needham 1826-1857.
He was baptised on 24 November 1850 at Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire.
His parents farmed at High Needham near Earl Sterndale, but when the Census was taken in 1861 he was living aged ten with his unmarried aunt Sarah Needham at Cut House in Earl Sterndale, together with his sister Elizabeth Horobin 1847-1900 then aged thirteen.
He married Sarah (surname unknown), and farmed at Crowdecote in Derbyshire. They had the following children:
Robert Horobin. He was born in 1880, and died on 25 November 1881 aged seventeen months. He was buried on 1 December 1881 at Earl Sterndale.
Alfred Horobin. He was born in 1883. When the Census was taken in 1901 and 1911 he was living unmarried with his father at Crowdecote. In 1911 he was working as a labourer in a limestone quarry. He died in 1962 aged 80 years.

Their father Charles Horobin died on 28 September 1920 aged 70 years.
His wife Sarah Horobin had predeceased him on 10 March 1892 aged 43 years. She was buried on 15 March 1892 at Earl Sterndale, where their is a gravestone inscribed to her memory and that of her husband.
