Charles Adams was born in 1846 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of William Adams 1813-1898 and his wife nee Hannah Wood, and was baptised there on 30 August 1846.
He became a journeyman joiner and carpenter.
He married Fanny Walker on 9 August 1869 at Alton in Staffordshire. She was born in 1852 in Ashbourne, the daughter Samuel Walker.
They had the following children:
William Adams. He was born in 1869 at Ashbourne, and baptised there on 24 December 1869. In 1891 he was a post office clerk, and by 1911 he was an overseer for the Post Office, living at 281 Shobnall Street in Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire. In 1894 he had married Fanny Jane Scarlett 1851-1922, born at Temple Balsall in Warwickshire. He died in 1924.
Ada Adams. She was born in 1876 at Ashbourne, and baptised there on 8 September 1876. In 1891 she was an assistant in a book shop. She was married to Arthur Shepherd 1870-1969, and died in 1959.
Alfred Edwin Adams. He was born in 1879 at Burton-on-Trent. In 1911 he was training to become a dentist. He died on 12 April 1955 at Alstonefield. Probate of his Will was granted on 25 July 1955 (1).
Beatrice Annie Adams. She was born in 1880 at Ashbourne. She became a teacher, and was unmarried. She died on 12 January 1941. Administration of her estate was granted on 5 May 1941 (2).
Signature on 1911 Census Return
In 1871 Charles and Fanny Adams were living in Compton Terrace in Ashbourne, but by 1881 they had moved to West Street in Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire. When the 1891 Census was taken they were living at 29 Derby Road, Horninglow in Burton-on-Trent. By 1901 they had moved to 276 Shobnall Street in Horninglow. They were still there in 1911, and Charles Adams was then a joiner working in a brewery.
Charles Adams died at Burton-on-Trent in 1923 aged 74 years.
His wife Fanny had died there in the previous year aged 70 years.
