John Adams was born in 1853 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of William Adams 1813-1898 and his wife nee Hannah Wood, and was baptised at Alstonefield on 13 February 1853.
In 1871 aged 18 he was a joiner's apprentice in Alstonefield. By 1881 he was a joiner lodging in the household of John Larkin, a provision dealer, at 28 Horninglow Road in Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire.
He married Sarah Elizabeth Harris in 1886 at Northanpton. She was born in 1862 in Hanslope, Buckinghamshire, the daughter of Charles and Henrietta Harris of High Street, Hanslope.
They had the following children, both born in Burton-on-Trent:
Gertrude Annie Adams. She was born in 1886.
Helena Adams. She was born in 1888, and became an elementary school teacher.
When the 1891 Census was taken John Adams and his family were living at 9 Sydney Street in Horninglow, Burton-on-Trent. He was then employed as a joiner's foreman. By 1911 they had moved to 91 Eton Road in Burton-on-Trent.
John Adams died at Burton-on-Trent in 1932 aged 79 years.
