William Adams was born in 1869 at Ashbourne in Derbyshire, the son of Charles Adams 1846-1923 and his wife nee Fanny Walker 1851-1922, and was baptised there on 24 December 1869.
When the Census was taken in 1891 he was a post office clerk, living at 281 Shobnall Street in Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire. He and his wife were at the same address in 1911, by when he was an overseer employed by the Post Office.
In 1895 he had married Fanny Jane Scarlett 1851-1922 in Warwickshire. She was born on 31 March 1871 at Temple Balsall in Warwickshire, the daughter of Samuel Scarlett 1833-1909 and his wife nee Ruth Richards 1839-1923.
They had no children by 1911.

His wife had predeceased him at Burton-on-Trent in 1922 aged 71 years.
