Nat Gould

Sarah Gould 1818-1902

Sarah Gould was born in 1818 at Sheen in Staffordshire, the daughter of John Gould 1786-1860 and his wife née Jane Alsope 1782-1884.

In 1848 she was married to Thomas Burnett. He was born in 1817 at Cauldon in Staffordshire, the son of William Burnett 1787-1862 of Grindon in Staffordshire and his wife née Sarah Johnson 1781-1841. He was baptised at Cauldon on 7 September 1817.

When the Census was taken in 1851 she and her husband and two infant daughters were living at Radbourne in Derbyshire. He was working with his widowed father William Burnett on his farm of 146 acres employing two men. By 1861 he was himself running the farm and then employing two men and a boy. They had moved to Lower Hurst Farm at Fawfieldhead in Alstonefield parish in Staffordshire by 1871 on a farm of 120 acres, which had increased to 150 acres by 1881.

Thomas and Sarah Burnett had the following children, all born at Radbourne:

Sarah Jane Burnett. She was born in 1849. She was married to John Gould Goodwin born in 1845 at Hartington in Derbyshire.

Elizabeth Burnett. She was born in 1850. She was married to Abraham Thomas Bury (died 1 February 1920), and died on 3 May 1901.

John Gould Burnett. He was born in 1854. He married Rachel Annie Hopkinson 1856-1920, and died on 15 May 1896 at Hartington.

Ellen Ann Burnett. She was born in 1856. She was married to George Kirkham 1855-1930, and died in 1920 at Biggin near Hartington.

Richard Gould Burnett. He was born on 15 January 1859. He married Mary Catherine Burnett 1870-1930, and died on 7 July 1909 at Lower Hurst Farm in Sheen.

Mildred Esther Burnett. She was born in 1862, and died in 1864 at Sheen.

Their mother Sarah Burnett née Gould died on 30 December 1902 aged 85 years at Heathcote in Hartington parish. She was buried at Sheen, where there is a gravestone inscribed to her memory and that of her husband.

Her husband had predeceased her on 8 June 1886 at Lower Hurst Farm aged 69 years.
