Nat Gould

William Burnett 1787-1862

William Burnett was born in 1787 at Grindon in Staffordshire, the son of William Burnett and his wife nee Mary Chadwick. He was baptised at Grindon on 22 April 1787.

He married Sarah Johnstone. She was born in 1781 and died in 1841.

When the Census was taken in 1851 he was farming 146 acres at Radbourne in Derbyshire, employing two men. With him was his son Thomas Burnett and his family.

By 1861 he had retired, and was living at Rusden Farm in Middleton and Smerill parish in Derbyshire in the household of his daughter Elizabeth Thompson nee Burnett and her husband and family.

William and Sarah Burnett had the following children:

William Burnett. He was born in 1810, and died in 1830.

George Burnett. He was born in 1816.

Thomas Burnett 1817-1886. He was born in 1817, and died in 1886.

Elizabeth Burnett. She was born in 1823. She was married to John Thompson, born in 1806 at Dilhorne in Staffordshire. They lived at Rusden Farm in Middleton and Smerill parish in Derbyshire. Elizabeth Thompson nee Burnett died in 1885.

Their father William Burnett died in 1862. He was buried at Grindon, where there is a gravestone inscribed to his memory.
