They had the following children:

When the Census was taken in 1841 the family were living at Scaldersitch (1) in Sheen parish, close by the river Dove forming the boundary with Hartington parish in Derbyshire. By 1851 John Gould was farming 180 acres there employing four labourers. Staying with them when the Census was taken in that year was his granddaughter Jane Ann Goodwin, daughter of his daughter Ann. The household also included one female servant and two male servants.

John Gould died on 1 October 1860 at Scaldersitch. His Will was proved on 20 November 1860 (2).

His widow Jane Gould née Alsope returned to her native Heathcote, and died in 1884 aged 73 years. She was buried at Hartington on 2 July 1884.
