Joseph Berisford 1860-1922

Joseph Berisford was born in 1860 at Narrowdale in Alstonefield parish in Staffordshire, the son of George Berisford and his wife nee Sarah Howard. His father was a shoemaker. He was baptised at Hartington on 11 August 1854.

He married Louisa Twigge in 1878. She was born at Parwich in Derbyshire in 1856.

In 1881 he was living with his wife and children at Parwich, employed as a farm labourer. When the 1891 Census was taken the family were living at Orchard View, Dale End in Parwich.

However when the 1901 Census was taken they had moved to Barton Cottages, Ashbourne Road, Church Broughton in Derbyshire, Joseph Berisford being then employed as a cattleman on a farm. By 1911 he was living at Boyleston in Derbyshire with his sons Isaac and Joseph, still at school.

The family used the variant Beresford as their surname.

They had the following children:

Harriet Beresford. She was born at Parwich in 1888.

May Beresford. She was born at Parwich in 1893.

Frank Beresford. He was born at Parwich in 1895.

Isaac Beresford. He was born at Parwich in 1898.

Joseph William Beresford. He was born at Hatton in Derbyshire in 1900.

Their father Joseph Berisford died in 1922 aged 63 years.
His wife died in 1924 aged 69 years.
