George Berisford 1854-1939

George Berisford was born in 1854 at Hartington in Derbyshire, the son of George Berisford and his wife nee Sarah Howard. His father was a shoemaker. He was baptised at Hartington on 11 August 1854.

In 1871 George Berisford was working aged sixteen as a general servant for William Fallows at Wolfscote Grange in Hartington parish.

He married Annie (maiden surname unknown) in 1874 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire. She was born at Alstonefield in 1853.

In 1881 he was living with his wife and children at Stanshope in Alstonefield parish, employed as a farm labourer. However when the 1891 Census was taken they had moved to Cook Lane, Doveridge in Staffordshire. By 1901 they were living at Main Street, Hilton in Derbyshire.

The family used the variant Beresford as their surname.

They had the following children:

Annie Beresford. She was born at Mickleover in Derbyshire in 1875.

Mary Beresford. She was born at Colston Basset in Nottinghamshire in 1878.

Samuel Beresford. He was born at Alstonefield in 1880.

George Herbert Beresford. He was born at Alstonefield in 1885.

Their father George Berisford died in 1939 aged 86 years.
