Edith Sheldon 1863-1944

Edith Sheldon was born in 1863 at Tideswell in Derbyshire, the daughter of Samuel Sheldon 1845-1882 and his wife nee Ann Middleton.

She was married on 2 August 1884 to Benjamin Laycock Pratt at St. Mary's parish church in Stockport, Cheshire. He was born in 1863 in Sheffield, the son John Pratt of Disley in Cheshire, a railway agent. He worked as a warehouseman in an india rubber factory in Manchester.

They had the following children:

Edith Mary Pratt. She was born in 1886 at Bradford, Manchester, and died in 1891 at Ashton-under-Lyne aged five years.

Annie Pratt. She was born in 1892 at Clayton, Manchester.

John Pratt. He was born in 1894 at Clayton, Manchester.

In 1891 the family were living at 9 Bird Street, Droylsden in Manchester. but by 1901 they had moved to Hayfield Road in New Mills in Derbyshire.

When the 1911 Census was taken, the family were living at 23 Coniston Street, Pendleton in Salford, Lancashire. Both surviving children were then working at the india rubber factory, Annie Pratt as a rubber heel sorter and her brother John Pratt as a calender worker there.

Edith Pratt died in 1944 at Ashton-under-Lyne (then in Cheshire) aged 81 years.
