Benjamin Bennington 1817-1886

Wendling Church

Benjamin Bennington was born on 6 May 1817 at Wendling in Norfolk, and baptised there on 11 May 1817. He was the son of Benjamin Bennington 1773-1822 of Wendling and his wife nee Ellen Skipper 1777-1844.

He married Susanna Doy on 21 November 1837 at Wendling. She was born in May 1817 at Wells-next-the Sea in Norfolk.

Their children, all born (and where mentioned baptised) at Wendling, were:

Ann Bennington. She was born on 26 September 1838, and baptised on 30 September 1838.

George Bennington. He was born on 28 May 1840, and baptised on 31 May 1840. He became a Sergeant in the 64th Regiment, and married Catherine Reading on 2 March 1869. She was a widow, and was born in 1843 at Plymouth in Devonshire, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Lovell.

Benjamin Bennington. He was born in 1843, and baptised on 23 July 1843. He died in 1933 at Redcar in Yorkshire.

Lydia Bennington. She was born in 1844, and baptised on 26 May 1844. She was working as a housemaid in 1861 at Woodrising in Norfolk.

Ellen Elizabeth Bennington. She was born on 18 December 1846, and baptised on 25 December 1846. She was married to George Skeet in 1868. He was born in 1846 at Burnham in Norfolk. He was a railway platelayer, and they had two sons, William Skeet (born in 1870 at North Elmham in Norfolk) and Edward George Skeet ( born in 1880 at Burnham).

William Jesse Bennington. He was born in 1848, and baptised on 13 August 1848. He died in 1940 at South Bank in Yorkshire.

Susanna Maria Bennington. She was born on 12 September 1852, and baptised on 19 September 1852. In 1873 she was married at Stockton in Durham to Joseph Richard Preston, an iron dresser. They had a daughter, Harriet Preston born in 1873 at Middlesborough.

John Henry Bennington. He was born in 1854, and baptised on 17 September 1854. He was a hoist engine driver, and died in 1911. In 1876 he married Emily Wicker at Middlesborough. She was born in 1854 and died before 1885. They had two children both born in Middlesborough: Emily Edith Bennington (born in 1877), and John Nennington (born in about 1885.) John Henry Bennington married Annie Miller Lowe in 1888 in Middlesborough. She was born in in about 1867 and died in 1938 at Great Ayton in Yorkshire. They had three children, Hilda Bennington (born in 1889 at Middlesborough), Thomas Henry Bennington (born in 1895 at Middlesborough), and Maud Bennington (born in 1897 at Great Ayton.)

James Alfred Bennington. He was born in 1856, and baptised on 17 September 1854.

Eliza Adelaide Bennington. She was born in 1858. She had a daughter, Linda May Bennington born in 1881 at Middlesborough.

Lorenzo David Bennington. He was born in 1860 and died in 1930 at Barnstaple in Devon. He was a grocer's assistant. In 1880 he married Ellen Alice Umpleby born in 1857 at Boroughbridge in Yorkshire. They had two children, Annie Mary Bennington (born in 1880 at Yarm in Yorkshire) and John Bennington (born in about 1886 at Coatham in Yorkshire).


Benjamin Bennington died in December 1886 at Redcar in Yorkshire.
