Lydia Bennington was born on 16 January 1821 at Wendling in Norfolk, the daughter of Benjamin Bennington of Wendling and his wife nee Ellen Skipper.
On 10 April 1844 she was married to John Holland in St Luke's church, Chelsea. He was a wheelwright.
By 1851 she was widowed and living at The Beach, Sidmouth in Devon with her brother William Bennington 1805-1856 and his family, working as an assistant in the hairdresser's shop there. With her was her only child Frederick Holland, born in 1845 at Chelsea in Middlesex.
Frederick Holland became a butcher. He and his wife Harriet had six children: Herbert Holland (born in 1869 at Chelsea), Charles Holland (born in 1870 at Chelsea), Albert Holland (born in 1872 at Chelsea),Lydia Holland (born in 1875 at Chelsea), James Holland (born in 1878 at Chelsea), and Harry Holland (born in 1880 at Fulham in London).
