Benjamin Bennington was born in 1843 at Wendling in Norfolk, and baptised there on 23 July 1843. He was the son of Benjamin Bennington 1817-1886 and his wife nee Susan Doy.

He married Martha Thornellay Sands on 13 June 1867 at Stickney in Lincolnshire. She was born on 17 October 1846 at the Bricklayers Arms in Stickney, the daughter of John Sands and his wife nee Elizabeth Ingamells. Martha Bennington died on 5 January 1912 at 57 Muriel Street, Redcar in Yorkshire. Benjamin Bennington was a market gardener.

They had the following children:

Martha Bennington Thornallay. She was born on 27 April 1867 in New Barnet, Hertforshire.

Mary Jane Bennington. She was born and died on 3 November 1868 in South Bank, Yorkshire.

Elizabeth Ann Bennington. She was born on 27 August 1869 in South Bank, Yorkshire. On 11 January 1893 she was married at Redcar to William Edward Fairbrass, born at South Bank in 1870 the son of Edwin Fairbrass and his wife nee Mary Evans. He was an engine man. They had three children: William Edwin Fairbrass (born in 1893 at 27 Albion Street in South Bank), Bertie Fairbrass (born on 27 June 1896 at 12 James Street in South Bank), and Hilda Fairbrass (born 23 December 1897 at 12 James Street in South Bank).

Joseph John G. Bennington. He was born on 6 August 1871 in South Bank, Yorkshire.

George William Bennington. He was born on 5 April 1873 in South Bank, Yorkshire. He married Emma Jane Stanley at Middlesborough on 1 December 1893. She was born on 4 March 1871 in Wolverhampton, the daughter of Isaac Stanley and his wife nee Eliza Curran, and died on 7 January 1945 at Ormesby in Yorkshire. George William Bennington was a locomotive driver, and died on 18 January 1917. They had seven children: George Stanley Bennington (1894-1940), James Parker Bennington (1896-1918), Nellie Bennington (1898-1992), John William Bennington (1900-1983), Bertie Bennington (1902-1984), Lily Bennington (1904-1967), and Arthur Benjamin Bennington (1906-1988).

Amelia Letitia Bennington. She was born on 25 January 1875 in South Bank, Yorkshire.

Edith Lydia Bennington. She was born on 30 November 1876 in South Bank, Yorkshire.

Helena Caroline Bennington. She was born on 6 November 1878 at 18 Bolkow Terrace, Grangetown in Yorkshire. On 22 February 1898 she was married at Redcar to Lawrence John Laing, born in 1879 in Redcar the son of James Laing. He was a joiner.
