Hannah Askey 1871-1929

Hannah Askey was born in 1871 at Milldale near Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the daughter of William Askey 1844-1917 and his wife née Jane Berisford 1841-1919. She was baptised at Alstonefield on 14 November 1871.

In 1891 she was working as an general domestic servant in the household of Goodwin Greensmith of Old House Farm, Thorpe in Derbyshire.

In 1892 she was married to William Henry Parry 1862-1925 born at Baschurch in Shropshire. He was the son of Edward Parry 1824-1891 and his wife Eliza (maiden surname unknown) 1827-1891.

When the 1901 Census was taken she was living with her children at a cottage in Ballidon near Bradbourne in Derbyshire. Her husband was not with her when the Census was taken. From 1908 until at least 1911 they were living at Donnington Park Cottage at Castle Donington in Leicestershire. Later they lived at Swadlincote in Derbyshire.

They had the following children:

William Henry Parry. He was born on 11 May 1892 at Alderton near Baschurch, and baptised on 1 June 1892 at Caverswall in Staffordshire.

Jane Ellen Parry. She was born at Alstonefield in 1896. (Also known as Jane Eleanor Parry.) In 1901 she was living with her grandparents William Askey and Jane Askey at Church Street in Alstonefield. In 1911 she was working aged fifteen as a domestic servant in the household of Richard Matthews who was farming at The Grange, Ticknall in Derbyshire. In 1919 she was married to Arthur Wilkinson 1889-1961, and they had five sons and a daughter. Jane Ellen Wilkinson née Parry died in 1927.

Charles Parry. He was born in 1897 at Ballidon.

Victor Parry. He was born in 1898 at Ballidon.

Bertram Parry. He was born in 1901 at Ballidon. He died in 1945 at West Bromwich in Staffordshire aged 45 years.

John Parry. He was born in 1904 at Ballidon.

Christopher Parry. He was born in 1908 at Castle Donington.

Margaret Parry. She was born in 1910 at Castle Donngton, and was the twin of her sister Martha Parry.

Martha Parry. She was born in 1910 at Castle Donington, and was the twin of her sister Margaret Parry.

Their mother Hannah Parry died in 1929 aged 57. Her husband died in 1925 in Shropshire aged 83 years.
