Albert Askey 1886-1921

Albert Askey was born in 1886 at Milldale near Alstonefield in Staffordshire, the son of William Askey 1844-1917 and his wife nee Jane Berisford 1841-1919. He was baptised at Alstonefield on 29 August 1886.

In 1911 he was living at home and employed as a farm cowman.

He married Lydia Alice Gilman in 1914. She was born in 1894 at Wetton in Staffordshire, the daughter of John and Harriet Gilman. In 1911 she had been working as a general domestic servant on the farm of Herbert Adams at Gateham Grange in Alstonefield.

They had the following children:

Martha Ellen Askey. She was born in 1914 and was known as Patty in the family. She died in 1928 aged only thirteen.

Mary Askey. She was born in 1916.

Alice Askey. She was born on 6 September 1919. She was married to Kenneth W. Brandon in 1942, and died in Derby in 1998.

Their father Albert Askey died in 1921 aged only 34 years.

His widow married Richard Henry Fearn in 1923, and they had a daughter.
