Champion Farm

Elizabeth Cocks was born in 1735, the daughter of William Cocks and his wife Margaret (maiden surname unknown) of Champion Farm near Duffield in Derbyshire. The family surname was variously spelt Cocks, Cock or Cox.

She was married to Thomas Gould 1714-1794, the son of William Gould 1677-1772 of Hanson Grange in Derbyshire and his wife née Anne Morewood 1679-1749. They lived at Hanson Grange.

Their children were:

William Gould 1755-1845. He was born on 16 September 1755. He married Anne Richardson, daughter of Francis Richardson of Milwich in Staffordshire. She was born in 1776 and died on 4 June 1819 aged 43 years.

Ann Gould. She was baptised on 7 November 1758 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire. She was married to John Branch, an auctioneer in Liverpool (1), and they lived there in Cazneau Street. She died on 24 January 1837 (2).

Margaret Gould. She was baptised on 3 November 1760 at Alstonefield, and was living unmarried in 1828.

Ellen Gould. She was living unmarried in 1828.

Richard Gould. He was born on 23 March 1764. He lived in Rochdale in Lancashire and was a woollen merchant.

Elizabeth Gould. She was baptised at Thorpe in Derbyshire on 14 August 1766, and was the twin of her sister Hannah Gould. She was married first to William Bowman of Manchester, and secondly to Samuel Fletcher of Manchester. She had no children.

Hannah Gould. She was the twin of her sister Elizabeth Gould. She was married to Mr. Hartwell of Ashbourne in Derbyshire.

Thomas Gould. He died in infancy and was buried at Hartington in Derbyshire on 11 August 1757.

Thomas Gould. He was baptised at Thorpe on 14 February 1773. He died in 1775 and was buried at Hartington on 21 June 1775.

George Gould. He was the youngest son. He died in 1810, and was buried at Hartington on 24 March 1810.

Mary Gould. She was baptised at Thorpe in Derbyshire on 26 September 1770, and was living unmarried in 1828. She died in 1834.

Their mother Elizabeth Gould née Cocks died on 18 January 1818 aged 82 years, and was buried at Hartington on 21 January 1818.

Her husband Thomas Gould predeceased her in 1794, and was buried at Hartington on 7 August 1794.
