Thomas Dale was born on 16 November 1799, the son of Thomas Dale 1772-1838 and his wife Ellen Harding nee Ellen Taylor. He was baptised at Bradbourne in Derbyshire on 5 March 1800.

He married Elizabeth Dakin at Parwich in Derbyshire in 1819. She was the daughter of Thomas Dakin and his wife nee Elizabeth Roe. They had the following children all born at Lea Hall near Bradbourne in Derbyshire (1) and baptised at Bradbourne:

Thomas Dale 1821-1890. He was born in 1821 and was baptised on 8 April 1821. He married Ann Wright 1824-1910 and they farmed at Lea Cottage in Lea Hall. He died in 1890 and was buried at Bradbourne on 26 February 1890.

Thurstan Dale 1822-1864. He was born in 1822 and was baptised on 3 November 1822. In 1841 he was an apprentice living in the household of a grocer John Dakin and his wife Eliza in Winwick Street, Warrington (then in Lancashire, now in Cheshire). When the 1851 Census was taken he was at home at Lea Hall Lower House (Lea Cottage) aged 29 and a grocer. In 1861 Thurstan Dale was a commercial traveller lodging in the household of James Edmondson in Main Street, Bingley, Yorkshire. He was unmarried. At the time of his death he was living in Manchester. He died on 24 May 1864 aged 41 years and was buried on 30 May 1864 at Bradbourne, where there is a memorial gravestone.

Samuel Roe Dale. He was born on 15 May 1824, and baptised on 13 August 1824. He married Elizabeth Barker of Chaddesden on 15 April 1852 at Bradbourne (2). One month later they emigrated to the United States of America, settling near Millhousen and later farming at Marion, Decatur in Indiana, not far from John Wright and George Wright who were brothers of his sister-in-law Ann Wright (wife of his brother Thomas Dale).

John Dale. He was born in 1828, and baptised on 12 May 1829. He was farming at home when the 1861 Census was taken. In 1867 he married Eliza Ann E. Mountfort of Ashbourne, born in 1830. In 1871 they were farming fourteen acres at Hamstall Ridware in Staffordshire. John Dale died in 1879 at Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire, and was buried at Bradbourne on 19 February 1879 aged 52 years.

Ellen Taylor Dale. She was born in 1829, and baptised on 25 October 1829. She was married by licence to John Morley on 15 April 1852 at Bradbourne (2). He was born in Chaddesden, Derbyshire in 1829. They had the following children: William Henry Morley (born 1857), John Tempest Morley (born 1859), Elizabeth Morley (born 1861), Arthur Morley (born 1863), Mary E. Morley (born 1865), Edwin Morley (born 1867), and Joseph Morley (born 1869). Ellen Taylor Morley died in 1876 aged 47 years. In 1861 and 1871 John Morley was farming 175 acres at Haywood, Dodcott cum Wilkesley in Cheshire. By 1881 when widowed he was farming 41 acres at Church Hill, Spondon in Derbyshire. John Morley died in 1881 aged 53 years.

George Dale. He was born in 1831, and baptised on 18 September 1831. In 1851 and 1861 he was at home unmarried working on the family farm. By 1871 he had taken over the farm after the death of his father in 1864, and was living there with his brother Robert Dale and sisters Sarah Elizabeth Dale and Hannah Dale, all unmarried. They were all still there unmarried in 1881. In the following year he married Elizabeth Kirkham of Parwich in Derbyshire. She was born in Parwich in 1827. In 1891 he and his wife were living at The Flatts (Flatt Stile) in Parwich. He died in 1891. His widow Elizabeth was still living at Flatt Stile in Parwich in 1911.

Sarah Elizabeth Dale. She was born in 1833 and baptised on 14 July 1833. She died unmarried on 10 September 1887 at Hanson Grange aged 54.

Ann Taylor Dale. She was born in 1835 and baptised on 22 March 1835. She was married to William Morley in 1858. He was born in 1829 at Chaddesden. In 1861 they were living at Roe Farm in Chaddesden, where her husband was farming 209 acres employing four men and two boys. They had the following children: Mary Julia Morley (born 1861), William Morley (born 1863), John Morley (born 1865) and Alfred Morley (born 1871).

Robert Dale. He was born in 1836 and baptised on 3 July 1836. When the Census was taken in 1841 he was farming with his brother at Lea Hall, and was still there in 1881. However by 1891 he was farming at Hanson Grange; his niece Alice Dale was housekeeper, and there were also two female and two male servants. He married Sarah Ann Taylor in 1895. He died on 8 December 1896 aged 64 years, and was buried at Alsop-en-le-Dale in Derbyshire where there is a gravestone inscribed to his memory and that of his wife, also buried there. She died on 27 April 1930 aged 75 years.

Hannah Dale. She was born at in 1838 and baptised on 1 April 1838. She was married to William Smith of Waterhouses in Staffordshire in 1884. He was a joiner and wheelwright. He had a son Enoch Smith by a previous marriage, born at Onecote in Staffordshire in 1867. William and Hannah Smith were still living at Waterhouses in 1911. They had no children.

Benjamin Dale. He was born in 1840 and baptised on 11 November 1840. In 1878 he married Priscilla Hall born in Stockport in 1844. When the 1881 Census was taken he was a draper's assistant and he and his wife were living in Brinnington, Stockport and had two boarders. Benjamin Dale died at Stockport in 1886 aged 45 years. Priscilla Dale also died there in 1886 aged 43 years.

The husbands of Ellen Taylor Dale and her sister Ann Taylor Dale were John Morley and William Morley of Chaddesden, who may have been the twin sons of John Tempest Morley 1810-1872 and his wife nee Anne Moore Wilke 1816-1907. John Tempest Morley was a grocer in Derby and one of his apprentices in 1841 had been Francis Wright, the business partner of Nathaniel Gould in the tea trade in Manchester. If so, Nathaniel Gould's partner was his uncle Thomas Dale's sisters' father-in-law.

Thomas Dale died on 27 December 1864, and was buried on 30 December 1864 at Bradbourne where there is a memorial gravestone.

(1) Lea Hall is a tiny civil parish situated between Bradbourne and Tissington, in the ecclesiastical parish of Bradbourne. It consists of only three farms: Lea Hall, Lea Cottage and Gorse Hill.
(2) There was a double wedding at Bradbourne on 15 April 1852 when Samuel Roe Dale married Elizabeth Barker of Chaddesden and his sister Ellen Taylor Dale was married to John Morley of Chaddesden: Derby Mercury 21 April 1852.
