Summary of the Will of John Morewood 1645-1682

Summary of the Will of John Morewood 1645-1682 of Wormhill in Derbyshire.

I give Anne Morewood my wife that Messuage or dwelling house in Buxton wherein John Gamble now dwelleth and one Stable thereunto belongeinge togather with the Garden & Croft on the North Syde of the sayd house
and the Duglach barne in Buxton Le Green togather with the yard on the South Syde thereof
And Two Closes called the new closes neare Comon or wast ground called the Geldfeild
And one close called the Stonegapp close
And two closes called the Sherbrooke Closes neare comon or wast ground called the Coate heath and all houses etc to them belongeing
All beinge within Buxton & Buxton Le Green or one of them

And also two closes called the two Nayly Irons
And also other closes called the old feilds knowles
the which sayd closes tenements & premises are in Stadon (and were purchased by from Anthony Norton late of Stadon yeoman and Andrew Norton his son & heire apparent)
Ann Morewood my wife shall therewith Carefully mayntayne & Educate my daughters Sara Rebecca & Anne dureing theare minorities.

I give unto my daughters Sara Morewood Rebecca Morewood & Anne Morewood my two Messuages or dwelling houses in Stadon called the over house wherein John Duckworth now dwelleth togather with all barnes stables outhouses & gardens thereunto belongeing
And all that Messuage or Dwelling house wherein Edward Clayton now dwelleth togather with those severall tenements peices or parcels of land & premises in Stadon that is to say
two croffts upon the East syde of the Messuages wherein John Duckworth & Edward Clayton now dwell
And the ? yard at the yards
And two closes called the Crooked lands togather with the croft at the west end called the crooked lands end
And two closes called the three Roodes
And one halfe acre called the Steele land half acre
And two closes called the great stone wall and the little stone wall
And One little croft lyeing at the south end of the little stone wall close
And one close called the new close
And two closes called the Rotlands
And an acre of land in the How Meddow the Land of Ralph Needham at the east syde thereof And two roodes of land in the bothom of the How Meddow
And one halfe acre of Land called the Long Lands

Provided That if John Morewood my son & heire pay Sara Morewood Rebecca Morewood & Anne Morewood my daughters theire Executors or Administrators £200 at Michaelmas 1692 then Devyse of the sayd Messuages barns stables outhouseing Closes tenements & premises made to Sara Morewood Rebecca Morewood & Anne Morewood my daughters shall be absolutely voyd & of noe effect
And I further declare that if John Morewood my son default in payment of the £200 [unto the aforesayd Sara] Morewood Rebecca Morewood & Anne Morewood at Michaelmas 1692 then John Morewood my son & his heirs shall have noe advantage or benefit of the sayd proviso or condicion but shall be barred & excluded from all relief of redemption & that the sayd Sara Morewood Rebecca Morewood & Anne Morewood my daughters & theire heires from thenceforth shall have hold & enjoye the sayd Messuages barnes stables outhouses closes Tenements peeces & parcels of land & premises with theire & every of theire appurtenances absolutely Freed & discharged off & from the proviso or Condition before mencioned

And I further declare my mind & will to bee that in case Anne Morewood my wife shall dye before Michaelmas 1692 then the rents issues & proffits of the sd Lands Messuages building closes Tenements & premises soe devysed to my sayd daughters Sara Morewood Rebecca Morewood & Anne Morewood as aforesayd shall be employed by the persons hereafter appoynted to be theire Guardians for the mayntainance & Education of my sd daughters untill Michaelmas 1692

And if Anne Morewood my wife to dye before my children attayne unto the full age of 21 yeares in that onely Case I doe appoynt my trusty Loveing Freinds
Thomas Poole of Hardingwood in the County of Stafford Gentleman And
John Morewood of Nunn Feild in the County of Derby yeoman
to be Guardians to my sayd Sonn John Morewood & my daughters untill they attayne to the age of 21 And dureing that time to mayntayne & educate them

I give my Son John Morewood one Silver Bowle guilt one Silver Spoone one feather bed in the nether house parlor at Stadon & one Meale Arke in the ? chamber of the sayd house
I give my daughter Sara Morewood one Silver Tumbler & one Silver Spoone
I give my daughter Rebecca Morewood one Silver Sugar Sifter & one Silver Spoone
I give my daughter Anne Morewood one Silver Salt & one Silver Spoone.
I give my Brother Josiah Morewood all my Shirts Cloths Bootes & Showes
I give my Brother Josiah Forty Shillings to be payd to him within one whole yeare after my decease

And as for & Concerning all the rest of my goods Catle & Chattels I give the same to my wife shee payeing my Funeral charges & expences And payeing such debts as I shall justly owe at the time of my death And Mayntayning & Educating my sayd daughters according to the true intent of this my last will
And Lastly I appoynt my Loveing wife Executrix of this my last Will & Testament
And I hereby appoynt my Loveing Freinds & Kinsmen
John Morewood of the Nunn Feilds yeoman And
Robert Bagshaw of Hardingsbooth overseers of this my last will & testament.
