Samuel Hambleton 1812-1880

Milldale

Samuel Hambleton was born in 1812 at Milldale in Alstonefield parish in Staffordshire, the son of William Hambleton and his wife nee Martha Sheldon, and was baptised on 10 December 1812 at Alstonefield. His father was a stone mason, and he followed him into the same trade.

In 1838 he married Rachel Beresford 1812-1894.

They had the following children, all born in Milldale:

William Hambleton. He was born in 1842, and became a stone mason like his father and grandfather. He married Mary Lowe in 1861 at Hartington in Derbyshire. They lived successively at Ilam in Staffordshire, High Needham in Derbyshire, and Milldale, where they ran the Temperance Hotel.

Martha Hambleton. She was born in 1846. She was married to William Harrison in 1875, and died in 1910.

Samuel Hambleton. He was born in 1851 and died in 1859 aged eight years.

Mary Hambleton. She was born in 1854.

Henry Hambleton. He was born in 1857. In 1889 he married Eliza Adams of Alsop-en-le-Dale in Derbyshire. She died in 1950 aged 84 years. Henry Hambleton died on 18 July 1936 aged 79 years.

Their father Samuel Hambleton died in 1880 aged 69 years.

His widow Rachel Hambleton died in 1894 aged 79 years.
