Clifford Burnett was born in 1859 at Grindon in Staffordshire, the son of John Burnett (born in 1814 at Grindon) and his wife Anne (born in 1823 in Longnor, Staffordshire). John Burnett was a farmer of 170 acres of Mount Pleasant in Grindon in 1861, employing two farm workers and a female domestic servant.
In about 1863 the family had moved to Crakemarsh Farm near Uttoxeter, a larger farm of over 200 acres. By then there were two more children, Ellen Burnett having been born in 1862 back at Grindon and Florence Burnett born in 1864 at Uttoxeter. They were still there in 1871.
By 1881 the family were farming at Woodhouse in Alkmonton in Derbyshire, a still larger farm of 360 acres and John Burnett was then employing three farm workers.
Clifford Burnett married Ellen Elizabeth Gould, who was born at Pilsbury Grange on 1 June 1863, the daughter of Gilbert Gould 1821-1891 and his wife nee Ellen Wright 1834-1904.
By 1891 Clifford Burnett and his wife Ellen Elizabeth (known as Nellie) were farming at Johnson Meadow in Repton, employing four farm workers and two female domestic servants. They had a daughter May Burnett, born in 1890.
They were still there in 1901, but by 1911 the family were farming at Packington Hall, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. Ellen Elizabeth (or Nellie) Burnett was a party to the Hanson Mount Agreement dated 1 May 1911.
Clifford Burnett died early in 1936 aged 76.
