Retta Nancy Alice Hannah 1884

Retta Bennington was born in 1862 at Milldale in Staffordshire, the daughter of John Murrell Bennington 1828-1901 and his wife nee Hannah Austin.

She was married to William Gibbs in 1878. He was born in Hartington in 1858. They had twelve children.

In 1881 they were living at Hollins, Beard near Glossop in Derbyshire, where William Gibbs was a farm bailiff of 103 acres. Nancy Bennington was then living with them. By 1891 they had moved to Millington, near Altrincham in Cheshire, and by 1901 to Agden in Cheshire where William Gibbs was a teamsman on a farm.

Their children were:

John William Gibbs. He was born in 1879 at Buxton in Derbyshire. In 1895 he married Sarah Ann Mooney, born at Lymm in Cheshire in 1877. He was a carter and they lived at Latchford in Cheshire. They had four children, of whom two daughters were alive in 1911.

George Gibbs. He was born in 1880 at Mellor in Derbyshire.

Elizabeth A. Gibbs. She was born in 1882 at Prestwich in Lancashire. In 1901 she was working as a domestic servant in the household of Joseph W. Roberts, physician and surgeon in Irlam, Lancashire.

Hannah Christina Gibbs. She was born in 1885 at Lymm in Cheshire. She was married to John Eccleston in 1907. He was born in 1878 in Oughtrington in Cheshire. In 1911 he was a bakers' van man, and they were living at 5 Orchard Road, Sandy Lane, Lymm in Cheshire. They then had no children.

Martha Bennington Gibbs. She was born in 1885. She married Robert Pickles in 1909. He was born in 1884 at Accrington in Lancashire. In 1911 they were living at 44 Haworth Street, Rishton, Blackburn in Lancashire. He was a groom at the railway works. They then had no children. She died in Solihull in 1954 aged 68 years.

Lance Gibbs. He was born in 1889 at Carrington in Cheshire, and died in 1960 aged 71 years.

Alice Berwyn Gibbs. She was born in 1891. She was married to Albert Perrin in 1909. He was born at Rixton near Warrington in Lancashire in 1885, and was a cycle mechanic. In 1911 they were living in Manchester Road, Rixton and had a son Albert Perrin born in 1910. She died in 1968 at Runcorn aged 77 years.

Stanley Gibbs. He was born in 1893 at Carrington, Cheshire.

Thomas Gibbs. He was born in 1896 at Agden.

Lucy Gibbs. Born in 1898 at Agden. She was married to Walter Furniss in 1916 at Wortley in Yorkshire.

Joseph Gibbs. He was born in 1900 at Agden.

Bessie Gibbs. She was born in 1904 at Agden. She was married to William A. Collingson in 1927 at Manchester.

In 1911 Retta Gibbs had been married for 34 years and had twelve children, ten of whom were then alive, two having died.

She died on 29 July 1948 aged 86 years.
