Alice Bennington 1876-1949

Alice Bennington was born in 1876 at Milldale in Staffordshire, the daughter of John Murrell Bennington 1828-1901 and his wife nee Hannah Austin.

In 1881 aged fifteen she was working as a domestic servant in the household of Thomas Wooddisse, a farmer and builder of The Hollow, Alstonefield in Staffordshire. In 1901 she was working for John Bradley, farming at Woolley, Stretton in Derbyshire.

She was married to John Bunting in 1901. He was born in North Wingfield, Derbyshire in 1878. He worked for the County Council on the roads. They had no children when the 1911 Census was taken. They were then living at Woolley Moor, near Alfreton in Derbyshire.

Alice Bunting had a son before she was married, John Bennington. He was born in 1896, and was brought up at Milldale by his grandparents John Murrell Bennington 1828-1901 and Hannah Bennington nee Austin. He died in France during the First World War in 1916.

Alice Bunting nee Bennington died in 1949 aged 73 years.
