Joseph Middleton 1758-1805

Joseph Middleton was born in 1758 at Tideswell in Derbyshire, the son of John Middleton (born 1727) of Millhouse Dale and his wife nee Ruth Hooson, the daughter of Robert Hooson of Tideswell. (The surname is variously spelt Hooson, Houson or Howson in the Tideswell parish registers.) He was baptised in Tideswell church on 28 April 1758.

He married Esther Cartledge there on 28 December 1780. She was born in 1760, the daughter of Robert Cartledge, and baptised at Tideswell on 20 July 1760.

They had the following children, all baptised at Tideswell:

Mary Middleton. She was baptised on 29 April 1781.

Ruth Middleton. She was baptised on 24 July 1782.

Joseph Middleton. He was baptised on 15 December 1784.

John Middleton. He was baptised on 26 February 1786.

Mary Cartledge Middleton. She was baptised on 14 April 1787.

Robert Middleton. He was baptised on 16 November 1788.

Samuel Middleton. He was baptised on 28 March 1790.

William Cartledge Middleton. He was baptised on 7 October 1792.

Esther Middleton. She was baptised 29 on December 1793.

Joseph Middleton died in 1805, and was buried at Tideswell on 31 May 1835.

His wide Esther Middleton died in 1831, and was buried at Tideswell on 6 May 1831 aged 71 years.
