John Middleton 1727-

John Middleton was born in 1727 at Tideswell in Derbyshire, and was baptised there on 28 April 1758. He was the son of John Middleton 1703-1726 and his wife Mary (maiden surname unknown).

He married Ruth Hooson at Tideswell on 3 November 1747. She was born in 1722, the daughter of Robert Hooson (1). They lived at Millhouse Dale (now Millers Dale).

They had the following children, all baptised at Tideswell:

John Middleton. He was born in 1749, and baptised on 9 January 1750.

Robert Middleton. He was born in 1753, and baptised on 22 July 1753.

Thomas Middleton. He was born in 1755, and baptised on 13 July 1755.

Joseph Middleton 1758-1805. He was born in 1758, and baptised on 28 April 1758. He married Esther Cartledge in 1780.

Samuel Middleton. He was born in 1761, and baptised on 22 June 1761.

The date when John Middleton died is uncertain (2).

His wife Ruth Middleton died in 1766 and was buried at Tideswell on 1 Juine 1766.

(1) The surname is variously spelt Hooson, Houson or Howson in the Tideswell parish registers.
(2) There are three men named John Middleton, buried at Tideswell in 1773, 1792 and 1795.
