Joseph Middleton 1784-1852

Joseph Middleton was born in 1784 at Tideswell in Derbyshire, the son of Joseph Middleton of Tideswell (born 1758) and his wife nee Esther Cartledge, and baptised at Tideswell church on 15 December 1784.

He married Mary Handley at Tideswell church on 1 May 1808.

They had the following children, all baptised at Tideswell:

Esther Middleton. She was born in 1808, and was baptised on 22 July 1808.

John Middleton 1811-1892. He was born in 1811, and was baptised on 3 February 1811. He married Elizabeth Collis on 15 July 1840.

Joseph Middleton. He was born in 1815, and was baptised on 11 May 1815.

Sarah Middleton. She was born in 1818, and was baptised on 3 March 1818.

Samuel Middleton. He was born in 1820, and was baptised on 6 October 1820.

Marianne Middleton. She was born in 1823, and was baptised on 13 February 1823.

Robert Middleton. He was born in 1825, and was baptised on 19 August 1825.

Martha Middleton. She was born in 1829, and was baptised on 25 February 1829.

In 1841 Joseph Middleton was living at Upper Street in Tideswell with his wife and children Joseph Middleton, Sarah Middleton and Samuel Middleton.

When the 1851 Census was taken, he and his wife were living alone at High Street in Tideswell, next door to their son John Middleton and his family. Joseph Middleton was then recorded as being a farmer of nine acres employing no labourers.

Joseph Middleton died at Tideswell in 1852 aged 68 years..

His wife Mary Middleton died there in 1859 aged 73 years.
