Joseph Allen 1813-1897

Joseph Allen was born in 1813 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire.

He married Mary Bennet in 1835 at Alsop-en-le-Dale in Derbyshire. She was born at Biggin Moor in Derbyshire in 1813.

They lived at Church Street in Alstonefield. When the Census was taken in 1851 Joseph Allen was recorded as being a coal carrier. However by 1861 he had become a farmer of 40 acres. By 1871 his land had increased to 70 acres.

They had the following children:

James Allen. He was born in 1834.

Martha Allen. She was born in 1837.

William Allen. He was born in 1840.

Francis Allen. He was born in 1841.

Bessy Allen. She was born in 1843.

Julia Allen. She was born in 1848.

Matilda Allen 1850-1926. She was twice married, first to Thomas Austin in 1876, and secondly to Samuel Berisford in 1888.

Sarah Allen. She was born in 1853.

Joseph Allen. He married Anne Mart 1857-1919 in 1881.

Their father Joseph Allen died in 1897 aged 85 years.
His wife Mary Allen had predeceased him in 1891 aged 76 years.
