Charles Gregory was born in 1828 in Manchester, the son of James Gregory 1808-1859 of Manchester, a yarn draper, and his wife nee Martha Wilkinson. She was born in Manchester in 1809, and was a provision dealer.
In 1851 Charles Gregory was living with his parents and their other children at 68 Woodward Street in Manchester, when he was recorded as being a mechanic.
Charles Gregory married Catherine Critchley in 1850 in Manchester.

Charles Gregory. He was born in 1852.
Samuel Gregory. He was born in 1854.
Margaret Gregory. She was born in 1858, and was married to William Cuddy in 1852. Both worked in a cotton mill. They had two sons, William Cuddy (born 1897) and Edward Cuddy (born in 1901).
William James Gregory. He was born in 1861.
George Gregory 1863-1944. He married Susannah Pender in 1886.
Louisa Gregory. She was born in 1866.
