Thomas Greensmith was born at Thorpe in Derbyshire on 15 September 1785, the son of Francis Greensmith and his wife nee Ann Gilman.

He was a farmer of 300 acres at Thorpe, employing two men. On 10 June 1812 he married Thomasin Goodwin Gould 1787-1853 at Hartington church. She was born at Hartington in Derbyshire on 11 December 1787, the daughter of Richard Gould 1741-1820 of Pilsbury Grange and his wife nee Mary Goodwin 1754-1815. They had the following children:

Mary Ann Greensmith. She was born on 10 October 1814 and baptised at Thorpe on 13 October 1814. She died on 7 October 1835, and was buried at Thorpe, where there is a memorial gravestone.

Francis Richard Greensmith. He was born on 22 April 1816. He was a farmer of 150 acres at Thorpe, employing four men. In 1847 he married Ann Long at Lichfield, and they had six children. He died on 7 December 1888, and was buried at Thorpe where there is a memorial gravestone.

Thomas Greensmith 1818-1890. He was baptised on 25 March 1818 at Thorpe. In 1845 he married Louisa Barton of Tamworth in Staffordshire, and they had a large family. He was a chemist trading at 25 Market Place, Rugeley in Staffordshire. He died in 1890 aged 72 years.

Elizabeth Greensmith. She was baptised at Thorpe on 12 August 1821, and was married to Thomas Pidcock. He was born in 1818 in Cheadle, Staffordshire, and was a farmer in Thorpe, Derbyshire. She died in 1897.

Thomasin Greensmith. She was born on 2 August 1823, and was baptised at Thorpe on 3 August 1823. She was married to Samuel Berisford 1827-1903, a druggist and grocer in Mill Street, Macclesfield in Cheshire. She died on 21 March 1853 and was buried at Thorpe where there is a memorial gravestone.

Frances Greensmith. She was baptised at Thorpe on 11 December 1825.

Thomas Greensmith died on 8 September 1876 and was buried at Thorpe where there is a gravestone recording this date and that of his birth.

His wife Thomasin Goodwin Greensmith had predeceased him on 8 July 1853. She was buried at Thorpe, where there is a memorial gravestone.
