Nat Gould

Nancy Sterndale 1749-1779

Nancy Sterndale was born in 1749, the daughter of Ralph Sterndale of Pole Hall in Hartington in Derbyshire and his wife nee Elizabeth Bateman 1722-1755. She was baptised at Hartington church on 9 May 1749.

On 20 February 1775 she was married at Alstonefield in Staffordshire to Richard Gould 1742-1809 of Brownhill in Warslow, and they had two daughters:

Elizabeth Gould. She was baptised at Hartington on 5 November 1775, and was married to Benjamin Baldwin, a Manchester merchant. He was the son of James Baldwin.

Mary Sterndale Gould. She was baptised at Alstonefield on 12 May 1777, and was married to John Irwin of Manchester.

Nancy Gould nee Sterndale was the daughter of first cousins, and her husband was her mother's first cousin.

She died in 1779, aged only 30 years, and was buried at Hartington on 28 June 1779.
