Mary Sterndale Gould was baptised on 12 May 1777 at Alstonefield in Staffordshire. She was the daughter of Richard Gould 1742-1809 and his wife nee Nancy Sterndale 1749-1779.
She was married to John Irwin of Manchester, and they had the following children:
Elizabeth Irwin was born in 1803 and was baptised on 10 June 1803 in Manchester Collegiate Church. She died in 1820 aged sixteen years and ten months, and was buried on 12 Mar 1820 at Chorlton-on-Medlock in Manchester.
John Gould Irwin. He was born in 1804 and was baptised on 26 December 1804 in St Ann's Church in Manchester. He was twice married. He married Hannah Whitehead on 23 February 1826 in Manchester Collegiate Church, and they had five children. He married secondly Amelia Lowe on 12 December 1837, and they had a son.
Ann Sterndale Irwin was born in about 1807. She died in 1826 aged nineteen, and was buried on 12 March 1826 at St Luke's Church, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester. Her mother had died in the previous month.
Richard Irwin was born on 25 November 1810, and was baptised on 21 April 1811 in St Ann's Church, Manchester.
In 1820 the family were living at 13 Dale Street in Manchester (1), and in 1826 at William Street, Chorlton Row in Manchester (2).
