Ralph Sterndale was the son of Ralph Sterndale and Elizabeth Bateman 1675-1731 and grandson of Thomas Sterndale 1697-1743 of Pole Hall in Hartington and his wife nee Alicia Alsope.
He married Elizabeth Bateman at Hartington on 24 June 1748. They had a son and two daughters. Their elder daughter Nancy Sterndale 1749-1779 was the first wife of Richard Gould 1742-1809 of Brownhill in Warslow.
Ralph Sterndale died in 1796 and was buried at Hartington on 4 July 1796.
