Mary Jane Smith was born in 1845 at Blore in Staffordshire, the daughter of Thomas Smith 1799-1855 of Blore Hall and his wife née Elizabeth Carrington 1809-1873. Her father was born at Mayfield in Staffordshire in 1798, and by 1851 was farming 700 acres at nearby Blore Hall, employing a governess and ten workers including two indoor female servants and two male farm labourers. With them also in 1851 was his widowed mother-in-law Elizabeth Carrington née Shaw 1764-1852 (born at Eaton in Derbyshire). Her mother was born in 1803 at Croxden in Staffordshire.
In 1869 Mary Jane Smith was married to Frank Wright. He was born on 26 July 1842 at Bradbourne in Derbyshire, the son of William Wright 1796-1882 and his wife née Elizabeth Gould 1802-1843. He was a corn merchant and farmer. They lived at Hill Top on Old Derby Road in Ashbourne. He was also an Agent for his brother-in-law Nathaniel Gould 1824-1874 of Manchester.
They had the following children:
Mary Elizabeth Wright. She was born on 13 December 1870. She was married to Ernest Yates, born in 1866 in Manchester. He was the brother of Percy Yates who married her sister Edith Wright. They were the sons of Samuel Yates 1831-1901 and his wife née Mary McMullen 1832-1890. Mary Elizabeth Yates née Wright died in Auckland on 14 October 1949.
Edith Wright. She was born on 26 March 1872, and was married to Percy Yates. He was the brother of Ernest Yates who married Mary Elizabeth Wright. Edith Yates nee Wright died on 28 July 1958, and was buried at at Osmaston near Ashbourne in Derbyshire.
Frank Thomas Wright 1874-1939.
Henry Gould Wright. He was born on 9 September 1876. He died on 19 November 1879 aged three years, and was buried at Osmaston.
Amy Gould Wright. She was born on 9 April 1882 and died in 1959.
Mary Jane Wright died in 1883 aged 38 years, and was buried at Osmaston.
In 1887 Frank Wright married Fanny Potter 1859-1911 in Edinburgh Cathedral. They had two sons James Potter Wright 1888- and Reginald William Wright 1894-1916. Fanny Wright nee Potter died on 3 April 1911, and was buried at Osmaston.
Frank Wright died on 15 June 1913 and was buried with his second wife at Osmaston.
