Mary Gould was born in 1719, the daughter of Thomas Gould 1695-1763 and his wife nee Anne Bagnall 1681-1777.
She was married to George Griffin of Wirksworth on 11 September 1740 at Peak Forest, which suggests that it was a runaway marriage not approved by the parents. She died on 2 January 1775 aged 56 years, and was buried at Hartington on 6 January in that year.
George Griffin was baptised at Middleton-by Wirksworth on 11 July 1694, and buried at Hartington on 20 November 1771. There is a note in the register that he had then been living in (Earl) Sterndale
They had a son Joseph Griffin, born in 1743. On 7 October 1773 at Earl Sterndale church by Licence he married Alice Goodwin 1733-1817. He was then recorded in the register as a "bruches maker". He became the Governor of the Workhouse at Earl Sterndale.
Alice Griffin nee Goodwin was baptised at Hartington on 13 August 1733, the daughter of Joseph Goodwin of Hartington and Sarah his wife. She died on 7 May 1817 aged 83 years, and was buried at Hartington on 11 May 1817.
Her husband Joseph Griffin died on 27 November 1827 aged 84 years, and was buried at Hartington on 1 December 1827. They had no descendants.
