Maria Bagshaw was born in 1857 at High Needham in Hartington parish in Derbyshire, the daughter of Ralph Bagshaw and his wife nee Ann Gould. She was baptised at Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire on 8 February 1857.
She was married to her first cousin William Gould 1850-1899 on 7 February 1870 at Earl Sterndale. He was born in 1850 at Crowdecote in Hartington parish in Derbyshire, the son of William Gould 1822-1859 of Crowdecote and his wife nee Rachel Bagshaw 1813-1885.
By 1881 he was farming 200 acres at Brushfield near Taddington in Derbyshire, employing two men. With them was his widowed mother Rachel Gould nee Bagshaw aged 68 years. In 1891 they were farming at Flagg Hall in Flagg, Derbyshire, employing three male farm servants and a female domestic servant.
They had the following children:
Annie Gould. She was born in 1882 at Brushfield, and married to John Joseph Fletcher born in 1880 at Battersea in London.
John Thomas Gould. He was born in 1884 at Taddington, and died later in the same year.
Their father William Gould died on 26 June 1899 at Taddington (1).
His widow Maria Gould nee Bagshaw moved back to Taddington, where she was living on her own means when the 1901 Census was taken.
Her daughter Annie Gould was with her, aged 19 years and then unmarried.
By 1911 her daughter had married John Joseph Fletcher and she was then living with them and their son John Richard Gould Fletcher at their farm in Brushfield. Also there was her married sister Elizabeth Housley, probably visiting at that time.
Maria Gould nee Bagshaw died on 24 July 1913 at Brushfield (2).
