William Donald Anderson 1853-1923

William Donald Anderson was born in 1853 at Barningham Winter in Norfolk, the son of the Reverend James Richard Anderson 1824-1872 Rector of Barningham Winter and his wife née Elizabeth Julia Pellew 1827-1890. He was educated at Marlborough College, Wiltshire.

In 1872 he emigrated to New Zealand with his brother James Winthrop Anderson, where they became farmers.

In 1879 he married Bettie Montgomerie, the eldest daughter of Captain Alexander Montgomerie of Annick Lodge, Ayrshire in Scotland and of Eaglesham, Wanganui in New Zealand and his wife née Elizabeth Wright. She was the sister of Margaret Montgomerie who became the wife of his brother James Winthrop Anderson (1).

They had the following children:

William Edward Anderson. He was born in 1880, and educated at Wanganui Collegiate School, Wanganui. He was a farmer, and died in 1966.

George Pellew Anderson. He was born in 1882, and educated King Edward VI School in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk and Canterbury University College in Christchurch, New Zealand. He was a civil engineer. He married Thora Bannister 1893-1989, and died in 1948. They had the following children: Audrey Jocelyn Anderson (born 1915), Dorothy Lane Anderson (born 1917), Howard Pellew Anderson (born 1920), and Donald Spencer Anderson (born 1925).

Constance Minna Anderson. She was born in 1884. She was married to Harry Bruce Lethbridge 1880-1951, and died in 1939.

Hylda Elizabeth Anderson. She was born in 1890. She was married to Frank Oliver, and died in 1965.

Mary Montgomerie Anderson. She was born in 1896. She was married in 1922 to Donald Henry Lea, and died in 1970.

Their father William Donald Anderson died on 1 May 1923 at Wanganui in New Zealand.

Probate of his Will was sealed in London on 15 March 1924 (2).
