Seighford Hall

Richard Eld was baptised on 20 February 1546 at Church Broughton in Derbyshire, and descended from the Eld family living there (1).

On 8 February 1590 he married Margaret Wrottesley at St. Mary's church at Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. She was the daughter of John Wrottesley and his wife nee Elizabeth Astley, and was eleventh in direct descent from King Edward I of England by the Talbot, Paston, Beaufort and Holland families (2). Elizabeth Astley was the daughter of Thomas Astley of Pateshall and his wife nee Mary Talbot, daughter of Sir Gilbert Talbot.

Richard Eld was appointed Treasurer and Steward of the household of Walter Devereux, Earl of Essex and Earl Marshall of England, and Paymaster of the Earl's army in Ulster. In 1574 he received a Grant of Arms from Nicholas Norborne, Ulster King of Arms (3).

Richard and Margaret Eld had the following children:

Richard Eld. He was born in 1593 (4). He married Margaret Crompton, daughter of Sir Thomas Crompton of Cresswell Hall in Staffordshire, and died on 10 August 1640.

John Eld. He was baptised on 6 January 1594/1595. He married Mary Bill of Stafford. He died in 1653, and was buried on 3 December 1653.

Walter Eld. He was baptised on 27 June 1596, and became a merchant in London.

Mary Eld. She was baptised on 13 April 1598. She was married to Edward Aston of Milwich in Staffordshire.

Dorothy Eld. She was baptised on 8 September 1600. She was married to Christopher Hatton of Shrewsbury.

Their mother Margaret Eld died in 1618, and was buried on 15 June 1618 at Seighford.

Her husband Richard Eld died in 1621, and was buried on 22 February 1620/1621 at Seighford (5).
