Mary Jones

Chastleton House

Mary Jones was the daughter of Henry Jones of Chastleton House in Oxfordshire and his wife nee Anne Fettiplace.

The dates of her birth, baptism and death are unknown.

She was married to Edward Palmer 1614-1659 of Blockley in Gloucestershire, and they had a daughter Elizabeth Palmer who was born in 1656. She married Francis Eld 1650-1722 in 1677 in Feckenham in Worcestershire.

She died in 1699, and was buried on 30 July 1699 at Seighford, where there is monument to her memory.

Blockley Church

Edward Palmer died on 15 December 1659, and was buried on 17 December 1659 at Blockley.

There is an inscription in Blockley church that reads in translation as follows:

"Here rests Edward Palmer, Son of Robert Palmer and his wife Elizabeth Wise. To whose memory, his beloved wife Mary, daughter of Henry Jones of Chastleton, in the County of Oxford, Esquire, placed this last token of affection. He died on the 15th day of December, in the year of our Lord 1659, in the 45th year of his age."

It is now hidden by the flooring of the seats placed there in 1875.

His widow Mary Palmer nee Jones married Thomas Hunt.
