Mary Corden 1830-1905

Mary Corden was born in 1830 at Somercotes near Alfreton in Derbyshire, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Corden. her father was a tailor. She was baptised at Alfreton on 16 January 1831.

When the 1851 Census was taken she was working as a servant in the household of John and Sarah Clews farming at Broad Close, Tissington in Derbyshire.

In 1854 she was married to John Fearn at Macclesfield in Cheshire. He was born in 1828 at Kniveton in Derbyshire, the son of John Fearn and his wife Sarah (maiden surname unknown). He was baptised at Kniveton on 1 March 1828. They lived at a cottage called The Pigeon Box in Kniveton in Derbyshire (now demolished).

They had the following children, all born in Kniveton:

Annie Elizabeth Fearn. She was born in 1860, and was married to William Page at Kniveton church on 9 July 1888.

Sarah Fearn. She was born in 1863.

Mary Ellen Fearn. She was born in 1865, and was married to Arthur Smith at Kniveton church on 2 November 1891.

Elizabeth Hannah Fearn. She was born in 1868, and was married to John Thomas Smith at Kniveton church on 26 January 1898.

George R. Fearn. He was born in 1870.

Edward Corden Fearn 1873-1910. He married Sarah Richardson in 1895 at Stowe-by-Chartley near Stafford in Staffordshire.

Ada Fearn. She was born in 1876.

Their father John Fearn died in 1889 aged 61 years, and was buried at Kniveton on 29 March 1889.

By 1891 widowed Mary Fearn had become a domestic sick nurse. When the 1901 Census was taken, she was recorded aged 70 in the household of Frank Wright 1842-1913 at Hill Top in Ashbourne, employed as a monthly nurse.

She died in 1905 aged 74 years.
